Kilea on Necessary Fiction

The excerpt from Kilea is up on Necessary Fiction!

It’s from an early chapter – Kilea is about ten or so.

For those of you who missed them, here are two short extracts from the very beginning of the novel that I put up a few months ago: snippet one and snippet two.

Thanks to all who have sent in a photograph of your spaces – please keep them coming. It’s so wonderful to see what is important to you, your writing and your art.

  1. Helen!
This is so fantastic. The writing stopped and all I could think was where is the rest of it. Beautiful prose.
It’s fascinating to me how your ghostlike photographs capture the spirit of Kilea from that one small segment. And the schies. I need to hear more about the schies.
Really well done. Thank you for writing this.

    • Thank you, Lyra, for reading and for your kind words. I hope you will be able to hear about the schies one day. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

  2. Oh Helen, I’m completely smitten with Kilea!
Lyrical, stormy, dark and gorgeous. And brilliant. The air of it crackling with the unknown.

I am seriously looking forward to it being published. Thank you for sharing this.

“She had in her mind a space for everything new and worth knowing.”

I’ll say. Any girl who sees schies is a girl I will follow. Beautiful and meaningful prose Helen. Someday I will hold the bulk of it in my hands and read by California light. You are the real thing.

  4. Oh, dear Helen…I have not yet read snippets one and two, but the excerpt from Necessary Fiction is absolutely beautiful…so reminds me of the first clip I read of yours when I first stumbled upon your blog…so detailed and poetic…bodily stunning…I can’t wait for the book. What precious writing….

  5. And now I’ve read the two snippets…and my thoughts are the same…so beautiful. I didn’t want to leave.
